Fish me again: One supplement that works
I've always thought supplements are good for you. I mean, hey, it is $25 billion dollar industry in US only... so it must be true or beneficial since that many people are into it. But thanks to the recent article I've read on Forbes magazine that proves most of supplements are a waste of money while only ONE is worth it. And that is "FISH".
Apparently, Fish oil, which contains Omega-3, is responsible for lowering heart attack rate by at least 40%. Now that is a high percentage that you cannot ignore, since the way you are going to die is probably "cardiac arrest". And here is something that I wasn't aware of, thanks to my friend Ahmad Ashour, is that Fish oil helps in significatly reducing hair loss.
Here is interesting fact, millions of people take vitamins to stay healthy. But there's little evidence taking more than the body needs to ward off deficiency does any good. Examples from the article:
- Multivitamins: The government's Women's Health Initiative tracked 162,000 older women for eight years. Taking multivitamins DID NOT lower their cancer or heart disease rates.
- Vitamin C: The 2007 JAMA analysis found no benefit from megadoses of vitamin C in preventing heart or cancer risk.
- Vitamin E: The JAMA study found that taking vitamin E supplements slightly raised the overall DEATH rate. The 15,000 doctor study showed no benefit in averting cancer or heart rate.
So here is my two cents, stick to having Salmon fish once or twice a week or have fish oil pills, that way you will longer.
